Transitional Objects
When someone dies, their personal belongings, even mundane objects may take on a symbolic power and poignancy. This body of work was a personal exploration of intimate objects of grief and how relationships with such objects changes over time.
My aim was to explore the themes of memory and loss by subtly incorporating simulacra of objects within geological-like forms. It would be as if the objects themselves were hidden ‘fossils’ encased in rock.
I clung to his things, I gathered them around me. I needed to touch them, smell them, make sure that they were still real. Because he was gone now and I couldn’t be sure they wouldn’t just disappear because nothing felt solid or real anymore. Now that he was gone.
